Academic Skills
-
Capable using CorelDraw to create calendars and poster by importing data from ArcMap and then manipulate it in ways such as to change the scale and colour for effective cartographic design.
-
Capable of enhancing satellite images and manipulating spectral plots as seen in a lab I have completed.
-
Familiar with orthorectifying satellite images using PCI to create vector data to get closer to its actual location in the real world; accuracy is generally within 1 pixel of its right place.
-
Familiar and capable of organizing all my data into geodatabases, which makes the data easier to find and more organized.
-
Capable of using ArcGIS 10.3 to merge, clip, buffer, relate, join, and frequency to make maps for Digby, Halifax/Dartmouth, Bridgetown/Annapolis/Lawrencetown/Middleton Areas.
-
Familiar with using a Trimble Juno; I have recorded data for sidewalk surveys, and also recorded data for a site development project.
-
Skilled in using Microsoft Office as seen by my ability to create power point presentations and to create documents in excel spreadsheets.
-
Skilled at HTML coding, embed maps, videos, and images are a few things I can do.
-
Familiar with using Adobe products, at COGS we print most of our projects to a PDF from a piece of software and then send that PDF to a plotter; this makes the work not only faster but easier to control the settings of the project that we are trying to print.
-
Proficient in writing Python scripts to successfully run GIS tools and to run PCI Geomatica tools.
-
Proficient in creating script tools that will perform several different geoprocessing functions.
-
Skilled in AutoCAD, in creating a road alignment, road corridor, pipe network, pond grading, and profiles to go along with some of those creations.
-
Skilled in using the Bentley Map Enterprise software to edit LiDAR data and to create 3D buildings from the LiDAR data.
-
Skilled at using the Faro Scanner and also the Scene software.
Personal Skills
-
Good observation and inspections abilities by keeping good notes and knowing where problems could go wrong. In my GIS class I, for the most part, find the problem on my own and when I cannot find it I ask the person next to me.
-
Have been trained in WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System)
-
Have been trained in Certificate from Foster’s Fire & Safety LTD. (for being trained in the use of a portable fire extinguisher)
-
Strong computer knowledge in various programs by seeing what each tool does and making note of what that tool. For example, I did this with CorelDraw; I made notes of all/most of the short-cuts.
-
Strong in time management by dividing up my time wisely. The way that I spend my time doing homework is by working on the things that are due either the next day or the following week; followed by working on the things that are due a month or two away.
-
Superb in organizational by keeping track of all the work that is given to us or is going to be given in a few days’ time. I keep a day planner with me all day and write down everything that needs to be done for the next day or for the following week or if it is due in more than a month or more then I make reminders of it everywhere in my planner and put a couple notes around the house just for another reminder.
-
Skilled in planning abilities, by planning out my day the night before so I can just follow that list of things to do.
-
Accustomed to meeting deadlines by starting my work early and not getting behind
-
Highly dedicated and loyal, when the loyal and dedication is given it will be bounced back. When I say that I will be at a particular place at a certain at the set time, I more times than not be early.
-
Overall an understanding person by not judging people when I first meet them or get to know them before.
Transferable Skills
-
Strong in working cooperatively with a variety of individuals by not judging people by their own opinions. Example when we get a group project, I take note of everyone’s suggestions to the project and I don’t take all of those suggestions into concentration.
-
Good in creative thinking abilities by not limiting my options when it comes to layout on a project and also no limiting my options when it comes to colour selection. For example myLawrencetown Poster, for cartography, I had complete control over the layout and the colour scheme.
-
Accustomed to meeting deadlines by starting my work early and not getting behind. Last semester in my Geographic Information Systems class we had deadlines that we had to meet; plain for example the Digby basemap we had to have done and plotted out by a certain day and time. The same thing goes for the soils, slope and the TIN maps that we had to produce.

-
Able to construct and repair things by retracing my steps back until I find out where the problem is. In my GIS class I have had some problems pop up and when that happens I look over the last steps that I have done and make sure that they are the correct steps that needed to be done and also make sure that the data entered is the right data that is needed for that particular step; then if there is no problem there then I go back a few more steps and do the same thing with those steps. I do that until I find out where the problem is.
